Gen 7

Question
Answer
Note---10-02-2016

7:1 Again it is seen that Noah is singled out as the righteous one. In this verse, however his family is mentioned, which was not the case with the other verses.

7:2 Notice that the number 7 is pluralized. Consequently, we must understand that there were 14 animals, i.e. 7 males and 7 females.
It is implied that the reason for there being more clean than unclean, is that the clean were going to be sacrificed and also eaten.

7:2 Notice that clean and unclean animals are identified.
Why would God tell Noah to bring the fowl by sevens, and no all fowl are clean?

7:3Although there is a period at the end of verse 2, verse 3 is actually a continuation of the thought started in 2. The phrase “to keep seed upon all the Earth” may have been attached, to both thoughts.
What was to be accomplished in those 7 days before the flood that Noah and his family were locked in the Ark? Also what is the implication for us who will live until the end time?
It seems the wicked had believed that all was peace and safety, but then sudden destruction came.
It seems reasonable that this act might have been for both parties.
7:4 Once the animals were in the Ark, God told that he would have to wait 7 days before the flood would come.
Were there children on the outside of the Ark? Weren’t they innocent? How/Why would God destroy the children with their parents?
Yes, there were children on the outside of the Ark. In the eyes of God, they were not innocent. They would grow up to be just as despotic and wicked as their parents, so God destroyed both roots and branch.
Please note only Noah was found righteous on the entire Earth. God had waited until sin had almost taken over every soul. If He would have waited longer, maybe Noah would have died and then there would be none righteous left.
7:4 Although the verse mentions that every living thing (including trees) are destroyed, there seems to an implication of animals or flesh.
Definition of living substance is in verse 23.
Noah had instruction from the Lord to prepare for the flood. Do we have instruction from the Lord to prepare for the “great day of the Lord?”
In the days of Noah, God had a relationship with Noah. If it is that we are to perceive the instructions of God, we must have a relationship; and when God is ready, He will reveal his instruction to the person who is diligently seeking Him.
7:5 Noah did what he was told.

7:6 this is to be compared with 5:32. It can be concluded that Noah took 100 years to build the ark, by comparing scripture.

7:11 Note that water came from both below and above.

7:12 40 is the number of purification.

7:16 Notice that it was the Lord and not man who shut the door.

7:20 the highest mountain was covered by 15 cubits, which is approximately 22 feet of water.

7:22 The fish lived.

7:24 Although it rained for forty days and forty nights, the water remained on the Earth for 150 days.

Hence it can be concluded that they were in the Ark for approximately 6 months.

Gen 6

Question
Answer
Note---10-02-2016

6:1-8 is the introduction of the chapter. Details are supplied starting in verse 9.

6:2 Putting aside the understanding that the Sons of God were righteous people and the daughters on men were evil people.
We know based on previous scripture that sons and daughters were born to both groups of people.
The attraction however is one sided. There is only one group which is attracted to the other. Note that the daughters of the Sons-Of-God did not find/see the sons of the Sons-Of-Men attractive.

6:2 As is customary only the side of the men is presented. There is no  mention that the daughters of men found the sons of God attractive. However, they did pro-create.

6:2 It seems that the sons of God took unto themselves several wives. To the point that the least of them had ‘maybe” three wives.

6:3 flesh here means carnal.
Who was God addressing when He said man only had 120 years left on the Earth?
It seems as if He was addressing an unfallen being, or addressing the unfallen counsel in heaven. The meeting mentioned in Job of the sons of God.
6:3 Because the flesh war against the spirit, God is saying that man is waring against me.  God was saying that the impending destruction which had been spoken of by Enoch, which methuselah’s death would signify, would occur in the next 120 years. In other words, 120 years would pass before the destruction of the earth. Consequently, there was a limit to evil. Probationary time given before the flood.

6:4 Contrary to popular opinion these men were not gigantic in size but rather had a tyrannical attitude (as in bullies) about them. Consequently, the verse mentions their feats.
Why were the descendants of the mixed seed more evil than the seed of Cain?

6:4 the giants/bullies were violent men, who went from place to place causing trouble.

6:5 No wonder God intervenes. There seems to be no force on Earth to withstand the violence of these men. Consequently, God puts an end to it.
If God knew that man would sin, and knew to the extent that man would sin, then why is God repenting of making man, and He full well knew the consequences of his actions.
It seems that this is just an expression of how he feels so that the un-fallen worlds will understand how God feels about sin.
6:6

6:7 It is not clear whether there were some animals who had begun to eat flesh. However, it is clear that the animals were no doubt affected by the curse. Consequently, they too share their lot in the punishment that God dishes out.

6:7 In this verse it is clear that not all the kinds of animals are preserved. In this verse we are told that the animals will be destroyed.

6:7 The large animals that may have posed a threat to man, would have been destroyed at this point (Dinosaurs).

6:8 All men had would be put to death. The wicked by the flood and the righteous by some other means. However, Noah was to live through this ordeal. Consequently, the verse starts with “but.” Every living thing was to be destroyed, but Noah.

Noah represents those who will be translated in the end. He also represents though who will give the final warning before the close of probation.

6:9 The genealogy of Noah is first composed of himself.
Noah is here described as just and perfect. A title given to Job. The characteristic is that which was previously mentioned of Enoch.
Consequently, we see similarities between the two individuals. (Enoch and Noah)

6:9 Noah is the second person recorded in the bible as walking with God. Consequently, we can title him God’s mouthpiece or prophet similar to Enoch.

6:10 Shem=name, ham=hot, Japheth=opened.

6:11 Details are being provided for what was first mentioned in vs 2-5

6:11- 12It seems that the description of “all flesh” is to include the animals.

6:13 is the fulfilment of what was mentioned in verse 3.
before me/through them same word not clear why they are translated differently if it is the same word which is used.

6:13  This is the verse that details God’s giving to Noah of the plan.

6:13 although God says that He will destroy the Earth here, the Earth was not actually destroyed. The fulfillment of the destruction of the Earth will be when Jesus comes the 3rd time.
In the same way that sin will be consumed in the end and the ‘shell’  of the Earth left, it is the same way that the Earth was destroyed by the flood and the shell left.

6:14 gopher wood= cypress wood
Rooms=nest for animals
Pitch= type of wet asphalt/slime

6:15 length = 450 ft
 breadth = 75 ft
height= 45 ft
It is not clear based on the old English, how the window was to be inserted on the Ark.
There are varying interpretations for this window or windows of the Ark. Need more study.
6:16 although the scripture says a window, there are commentaries which say there were windows all around the roof of the Ark.

6:16 The Ark had three stories.

6:17 Note that the text is specific to animals on the Earth. All land animals.
Why does it seem that only Noah was found righteous? It seems that God singled out the man, rather than his family.

6:19 It seems clear that the coveneant was with Noah and not with his family?

6:19 amplifies verse 7:2
If this is a type, what significance do the animals play in the hereafter?

6:20 Noah did not have to collect these animals, they would come unto him. It is important to note that had not even the birds of the air come into the ark, they too would have been destroyed.
Do animals  have a soul that can be saved, for heaven?

Noah was to carry food for himself and family and also for the animals. It is clearly a miracle that he was able to do so. This no doubt was similar to the miracle of Elijah and the widow.

Gen 5

5:1 it is clear that the comparison is being made between created in the image and likeness of God versus born in the image and likeness of sinful man.
Adam and Eve were no doubt in the image of God, but the succeeding generations were in the image of their sinful fathers.

5:3 Note that in spite of Cain being the first born, he is not reckoned among the “sons of God” because he was reckoned as the son of perdition the first seed of the devil.

5:3 Three women were mentioned in chapter 4 in Cain’s genealogy, and their names had to do with beauty, ornament, shade, loveliness. This sets the stage for the comparison in Gen chapter 6, between the sons of God and the daughters of men.

5:4 Although it could be construed that the sons and daughters mention belong to Seth, because of the context clues, and the subject under discussion we can conclude that the sons and daughters belonged to Adam.

Gen 5:5-23 Please note that this is a specific lineage which is being mentioned. It is not to be said or understood that these were the first born, It is possible that there were other sons and daughter born before the ones mentioned.
How many generations after Adam was Enoch.
7 generations from Adam to Enoch. Adam died but Enoch did not.

http://advindicate.com/articles/2013/11/13/a-prophecy-in-genesis-5
5:29 For example, when you concatenate the meanings of the names in the genealogy in Genesis 5, he noted, you will find that a prophecy emerges: “Humanity appointed wretched, falling. The blessed God will descend - dedicated. His death will bring power, rest.” The class was impressed: “that's why we love this man,” said one of the class members.

5:29 It seems that the inhabitants of Earth then knew that something miraculous was to happen. All had hoped for deliverance from the curse. All had wanted an easier life, thus, Noah’s Father (Lamech) made this declaration because he believed that his son would be the one to deliver them from the curse of the Earth.

Gen 4

4:1 It is in this verse that we are told that Adam knows his wife. Because it is here first mentioned we must conclude that he did not know his wife before.
It is also important to note that fresh from the creator’s hand and under the mandate of being fruitful and multiplying it is understandable why it would be after sin, or rather after the test that man would be allowed to procreate.

4:1 The declaration here made by Eve shows that they were expectant of a man-child. No doubt from the promise that was received in Gen 3:15. However this man-child was not the promised seed that would come.
It is believed that God explained to them that the man-child which they were expecting, would not be born until 4000 years hence.
Consequently, no declaration was made for the man child that was born next.

4:2 Since the scripture does not say that Adam knew his wife again, it is suggested that Cain and Abel were twins.

4:2 Cain the one who sinned was associated with the ground, and Abel the righteous one was associated with sheep.

4:2The use of the word “but” in the verse is definitely contrasting and comparing one brother, over another.
If meat eating was forbidden until after the flood, why was Abel keeping the sheep?
It seems that Abel had a particular interest in the animals and as a result he came to be associated with them; or it could have been his assigned responsibility.
In the same way that Adam was to tend the garden, maybe Abel was to tend to the sheep. The role of keeping sheep was very important since it would be a sheep that needed to be sacrificed should sin occur.
The verse also seems to imply from the verse that Abel simply was fond of the animals and thus took care of them. He fed them
4:2
Was this the first time that Cain and Abel were offering a sacrifice.
Since this is the first time that this is being mentioned we assume that this was indeed the first time that Cain and Abel were officiating in this service as grown men.
It seems safe to conclude that previously Adam and Even were the ones who did this service on their behalf.
4:3 Cain and Abel were now of age, and at a stage at which they should offer a sacrifice unto the Lord. The “process of time” suggests that it was at this point that Cain and Abel sinned. Thus the need for a sacrifice.
Note that this time on Earth was a time when the life of an animal was precious and the eating of meat was forbidden.

Had they not been grown, Adam would have been the one offering on their behalf.
It seems safe to assume that these men were officiating on behalf of their independent families.

Story of redemption: chapter 6
4:3 It seems that Cain and Abel       (being the first born)  were given major responsibility of caring for the sheep (important animals) and tiller of the ground (food-important activity)
Why was the sacrifice of Abel accepted and Cain’s rejected; especially since each brought that which they seemingly had?
According Heb 11:4 we are told that a big part of the reason that Abel’s sacrifice was accepted over Cain’s is that Abel offered his sacrifice by faith.
Faith cannot be defined without the word of God, consequently, we know there was instruction from God as to what to do. Here Cain was blatantly going against what he knew the commandment from God was.
4:3-4. What seems to be under discussion here is tithing, and the sin offering.
Cain brought only one, but Abel brought both firstlings (1) and the fat (2).

4:6-7  It is clear in these verses that there was some instruction. This highlighted in the fact that God advises him if he does well then his sacrifice will be accepted. So no doubt Cain was advised of what the proper way was.  The Lord was appealing to him to do it the right way.
The Lord was saying” You really don’t have any reason to be angry.” But rather than accepting sound reasoning Cain got more angry.
Who are all the different male figures mentioned in these verses?
It seems Cain and the devil/sin, however it is not clear what or who is being addressed at the different instances.
4:7 This verse has a lot of supplied words. It is not clear how to translate it.

If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall behis desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
4:7 based on the words used in the original language, the last sentence is just two words, desire and rule. It seem consistent that the last two words were simply an addition to the previous statement and should not have been independent. Hence this last sentence should have read “If thou doest not well sin lieth at the door and shall desire to rule”

4:7 I think the verse is implying that sin would have dominion over Cain if he did not do well.

4:8 Cain did not correct his way, and as a result we see sin ruling over him in this verse.
Why were they in the field?
4:8 There were in the field working together, as the custom was. One taking care of the sheep and the other tilling the soil.

4:9 Again the questions of the Lord are rhetoric, and is for the benefit of the onlookers and the hearers, rather than for God’s benefit.

4:9 Notice that Cain lies blatantly to the Lord. Sin is indeed having its mastery of him.

4:8-9 In these verses we see the unrepentant behavior of Cain. Consequently, we are able to understand why it was that Cain was reckoned as the seed of the devil.
It follows that by definition a seed of the devil is any unrepentant soul.

4:3 There seems to be some sort of poetic reference or metaphorical reference to the ground yielding Abel blood at the hand of Cain, esp since Cain was a tiller of the soil
Her in this verse is supplied, however the word for mouth is masculine. Why was a female pronoun used to describe the mouth of the Earth
In an attempt to associate the things that are said with what is, the translators linked the earth with the caring, nurturing , bearing aspect of a woman with the earth.
This point is further strengthened in the next verse.

4:12 hence the Earth shall not yield, produce, bring forth for you anymore.
In order to get something from the Earth you have to first plant something. Here Cain had basically planted his brother’s blood, consequently his hand would be cursed and would not get anything from the Earth when he planted.

4:12 In other words the Earth will become like a barren female unto you.

4:13 Cain was sentenced to walk and beg for food for the rest of his life. Since he enjoyed tilling the soil to reap, this was a great punishment.
What was Cain really saying, by adding to the word of God?

4:14 Cain basically repeats his punishments, but then adds to what God said.

4:15 This is just proof that the Lord has no pleasure in the destruction of the wicked.

4:15 Vengeance is mine saith the Lord.. It seems that taking revenge for Abel’s death was personal to God and no-one would
Why didn’t God allow Cain to be destroyed?
The mind of sin, the characteristic of sin is on display. God extended mercy to Cain, so that it can be seen by the onlookers that no matter how much mercy is shown the mind of sin it will never be changed. Cain had entertained evil, now it had taken him over.
4:15 Notice there is no record of Cain repenting. In spite of how merciful God was to Cain, he did  not apologize. Instead we see him blaming God for his curse. I must be evil and there must be no consequences for me. “the selfish mind of sin”
God you are wicked for this punishment. I can’t bear this punishment.

4:16 His hard heartedness is revealed even more in this verse. Rather than humbling himself Cain departed from the presence of the Lord.

4:17 We know that Cain was never in the garden. Hence he could not have left the garden. Eden here is definitely a place on the earth, but it is not the earth itself.

Eden had borders like a city and it is clear that

4:17 The highpoint of the verse is that Cain left the presence of the Lord. Cain moved to the boarder of Eden to the Land of Nod (wanderer-wiki-pedia)

4:17 "Nod" (נוד) is the Hebrew root of the verb "to wander" (לנדוד). Therefore, to dwell in the land of Nod is usually taken to mean that one takes up a wandering life
Where did Cain get his wife?
No doubt Cain’s wife was a dweller in Eden. It seems safe to assume that she must have been assigned to him prior to his murder of Abel. Granted what woman would want to live with him after such a heinous act?
4:17 She was his wife before his murder of Abel?

It seems that Cain and Abel had to pass a test before they could conceive (have children), similar to their parents. Cain failed and Abel passed however only one lived to conceive to be fruitful and multiply.
4:17

4:18-19 Here is shown the lineage of Cain. Its seems that all the Earth was filled with godless people until the birth of Seth.

Meaning of the names mentioned in Cain’s lineage
It seems that the names tell a story, however we are unable to unlock that story.

4:19-24 Lamech means powerful, more defiant than any other of Cain’s descendants. He takes unto himself two wives. Something here first mentioned.
The second murder is listed among the descendants of Cain. He kills two men, and he declares himself untouchable.
If Cain was not punished for his murder, then Lamech should not be punished either.

4:25 Adam knew his wife, because they had continued relations. Again is not to be interpreted as once more as is typically understood. The again is to be understood in the sense that they had continued relations.
It seems that only the first born linage is followed of both seeds.

4:25 The declaration of Seth to be the replacement was God appointed.
It seems then that only the significant seeds are mentioned. Hence the reason why Seth was mentioned by  name.
This does not in any way say that Adam did not have any other children.
Was this an implication that only the descendants of Enos called on the name of the Lord; or was this a hint to mankind that this seed was the hope of men?
While it is not clear why Seth named his son Enos=men. It is clear however that it was through this lineage that the messiah would come.
4:26 The meaning of the name Enos=men. It seems awkward that the bible would then record that then men began to call on the name of the Lord.
