exodus 19

Question
Answer
Note---10-02-2016

19:1-2 Three months after coming out of the land of Egypt, the children were encamped at Sanai.
Did the presence of God leave the camp when Moses went up unto God?
It is not likely that the cloud which represented the presence of God moved from the camp, when Moses went up into the mount.

19:5 God singles out Israel above all other people

19:5-8 the first covenant.

19:8 Moses was mediating on behalf of the people.
What is the significance of the third day here mentioned?

19:11

19:11-13 The preparation to meet the Lord

19:13 The Lord was teaching them reverence, so he could not come in a still small voice. He was putting a difference between God and man. The things God use and the things men use. The common and the holy. Anything that God uses is Holy.

19:15 This verse is to be compared with lev 15:16-19.

Note that in these days when a man slept with his wife he was unclean until the even.

19:16 This entire even seems to be a reflection on the coming of God.

Also the trumpet here sounding does not seem like a regular trumpet, but instead seems like a sound from heaven that it exceeded the sound of the thundering.

19:18-19 very awesome and dreadful sight

The obvious lesson here is reverence. Remember when God met with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as a normal man. This type of presence was needful so that the people would fear the Lord.

19:24 Moses is warned to tell the people to stay back lest they be consumed.
