Why is there a difference between the names given to the daughter of
Ishmael, who Esua married?
28:9 Mahalath = "stringed instrument"
Bashemath or Basmath = "spice"
This seems to be a translation error. More
research has to be done to finalize what her name truly was or what it truly
meant.
36:3 vs 28:9
36:4-5 Esau has 5 Sons.
It seems strange that Esau would move although it was Jacob who was
returning to the land.
This might just have been the promise
of God fulfilling as when Esau left, the land would now become Jacob’s.
36:6 Esua goes to a different country with all his substance.
What is this story about. Why was not the details furnished here?
There does not seem to be a record in detail of this story. However it
is clear that whosoever the writing was intended for knew the story well.
Consequently no details were furnished.
36:24 This is a prime example of
the differences of audience that there are when reading the bible.
There is the direct audience
(people who were directly being addressed)…The indirect audience (people who
will read the address) and the implied audience (the people who the address
will/can be applied to). Sometime there are over lapping of these audiences.

The remainder of the chapter is a summary of the generation of Esua.
The bible seems to give the unrighteous lineage first and then the righteous.

This was my most ambitious project. I had hoped to provide a verse by verse commentary of the entire bible. However, my computer was stolen and I did not get to upload all the commentary I had documented up to Joshua. I was devasted by the theft and did not continue the commentary.
